About Generate Random IBAN

Who maintains it

The site is built and maintained by Generate Random IBAN, an independent project. It is not a bank or a payment provider, and it is not affiliated with SWIFT, ISO or any bank. The project also maintains iban-check, an open-source IBAN library.

What the site is and is not

It is a generator of test IBANs for 91 countries, an IBAN validator, a REST API, a public MCP server for AI agents and IBANpedia, a set of plain-language guides. The whole site is available in 9 languages.

It is not a bank. It does not open accounts and cannot tell you the IBAN of your own account: your bank shows it in its app and on your statements. The generated IBANs are test data that no bank issued, so never use them for payments, sign-ups or direct debits.

Why it exists

Payment forms, banking integrations and IBAN validators all need test data that passes checksum validation. Building those IBANs by hand is slow and easy to get wrong, because every country has its own length and layout.

This site generates them for 91 countries in a second. Each IBAN follows its country's national format and has correct MOD-97 check digits, and you can see what every segment means.

How the IBANs are generated

Each IBAN starts from the country's registered BBAN structure: the right number of digits and letters in the right places. Where a country has national check digits and an official algorithm is published, such as the French clé RIB or the Italian CIN, the generator calculates them. Then it computes the two IBAN check digits with MOD 97-10 (ISO/IEC 7064), so every IBAN passes the check that all validators run.

By default the generator uses realistic mode: digits only and, for 84 countries, the bank code of a major bank, curated by hand from official registers such as those of the central banks. The account number stays random. A realistic IBAN was not issued by any bank either, but it could match a real account by chance. Turn Realistic off for fully random IBANs: the bank code is random too, and letters can appear where the format allows them.

Sources and how facts are checked

Country formats follow the SWIFT IBAN Registry, Release 102 (June 2026), the official register that SWIFT keeps for the ISO 13616 standard. Algeria and Morocco are not in it: their formats come from unofficial lists, and their pages say so. National check digit algorithms come from central banks, national standards and banking associations, and each country page names its source.

Automated tests check every country format and every national check algorithm against the registry examples, and check that generated IBANs pass MOD-97.

IBANpedia articles are checked against primary sources: the SWIFT IBAN Registry, ISO 13616, ISO/IEC 7064, Regulations (EU) 260/2012 and 2024/886, the European Payments Council and the European Central Bank. Each article lists its sources and shows the date of its last update. English is the source text; the other 8 languages are translations of it.

Open source: iban-check

What happens to your data

You do not need an account. IBANs are generated on request and never stored, and we do not track which ones you generate. Use them in tests, demos and documentation, or to learn how IBANs work.

The validator checks IBANs in your browser; without JavaScript it sends them to our server only to check them, and does not store them. The Privacy policy and the Cookie policy explain the rest: hosting, Cloudflare, Google Analytics and Google Fonts.
