In CSV, JSON and SQL, every IBAN segment (bank, branch, account, check digits) gets its own column.

MOD-97 valid

Realistic mode: real bank code, random account number. No bank issued this IBAN, but it could match a real account by chance. Never use it for payments.

In the pattern, n stands for a digit, a for an uppercase letter and c for a letter or digit. The number before each letter is how many characters that block has.

Real bank codes in realistic mode

In realistic mode, the default, the generator takes the bank code from this list and keeps the account number random, so no bank issued these IBANs. With Realistic off, the bank code is random too.

Bank Bank code
Banco do Brasil 00000000
Caixa Econômica Federal 00360305
Itaú Unibanco 60701190
Banco Bradesco 60746948
Banco Santander (Brasil) 90400888
Nubank (Nu Pagamentos) 18236120
Banco BTG Pactual 30306294
Banco Inter 00416968
Banrisul 92702067
Banco Sicoob 02038232

The branch code stays random.

What to test with BR IBANs

  • Accept exactly 29 characters for BR, after removing spaces, and reject 28 or 30.
  • Letters or digits at positions 5–12, 28–29: a digits-only regex rejects valid BR IBANs. Realistic mode, the default, uses digits only there; with Realistic off, the generator puts letters there about half the time.
  • Ready-made invalid values for negative tests: BR6699999A03000010009795493C2 (last character changed, MOD-97 fails) and BR6699999A03000010009795493C (one character missing).
  • Bank directory checks: by default the generator uses real bank codes such as 00360305 (Caixa Econômica Federal), and random ones with Realistic off, so you can test a known and an unknown bank.

About IBANs in Brazil

Brazilian IBANs have 29 characters: an 8-character ISPB bank code, a 5-digit branch code, a 10-digit account number with its own check digit, a 1-character account type and a 1-character holder position (1 for the first or only holder). Brazil uses the IBAN for international transfers. Since an August 2026 update the ISPB may contain letters, so test BR IBANs with letters right after the check digits.

Questions about IBANs in Brazil

How long is an IBAN in Brazil?

29 characters: the country code BR, two check digits and a national part (BBAN) of 25 characters.

What does an IBAN from Brazil look like?

For example BR66 9999 9A03 0000 1000 9795 493C 1. That is the print format, in groups of four. Forms and files usually take it without spaces: BR6699999A03000010009795493C1.

Can Brazilian IBANs contain letters?

Yes. Letters or digits are allowed at positions 5–12, 28–29, and the registry example has 99999A03 C1 there.

Where is the bank code in Brazilian IBANs?

The bank code, at positions 5–12: 99999A03 in the registry example. The branch code is at positions 13–17 (00001). By default (realistic mode) the generator uses real bank codes, such as 00000000 for Banco do Brasil.

Will a test IBAN for Brazil pass validation?

It passes the checks most forms run: country code, length, character format and MOD-97 check digits. In realistic mode, the default, the bank code is real too, so a bank directory check accepts it. An account lookup or a payee name check will not confirm it, because the account number is random.

Can I use a generated Brazilian IBAN to sign up for a service or receive money?

No. It is test data that no bank issued to you. Money sent to it is rejected or, if the number happens to belong to someone, reaches a stranger, and using it for a sign-up, a free trial or a direct debit is misuse. Your own IBAN is in your banking app and on your statements.
