What to test with MD IBANs

  • Accept exactly 24 characters for MD, after removing spaces, and reject 23 or 25.
  • Letters or digits at positions 5–24: a digits-only regex rejects valid MD IBANs. Realistic mode, the default, uses digits only there; with Realistic off, the generator puts letters there about half the time.
  • Ready-made invalid values for negative tests: MD24AG000225100013104169 (last character changed, MOD-97 fails) and MD24AG00022510001310416 (one character missing).
  • Bank directory checks: by default the generator uses real bank codes such as ML (Moldindconbank), and random ones with Realistic off, so you can test a known and an unknown bank.

About IBANs in Moldova

Moldovan IBANs have 24 characters: a 2-character bank identifier assigned by the National Bank of Moldova and an 18-character account identifier, both alphanumeric. The IBAN was first required for international transfers, and the National Bank then set 1 January 2016 as the start date for domestic transfers. Moldova was accepted into SEPA in March 2025 and has been part of it since 6 October 2025.
