Gibraltar IBAN generator

IBANs in Gibraltar have 23 characters and start with GI. The one below is random, follows the national structure and passes the MOD-97 check, so form validation accepts it. No bank issued it.

In CSV, JSON and SQL, every IBAN segment (bank, branch, account, check digits) gets its own column.

MOD-97 valid

Realistic mode: real bank code, random account number. No bank issued this IBAN, but it could match a real account by chance. Never use it for payments.

Real bank codes in realistic mode

In realistic mode, the default, the generator takes the bank code from this list and keeps the account number random, so no bank issued these IBANs. With Realistic off, the bank code is random too.

What to test with GI IBANs

  • Accept exactly 23 characters for GI, after removing spaces, and reject 22 or 24.
  • Letters are required at positions 5–8. Test lowercase input too, and convert it to uppercase before you validate.
  • Letters or digits at positions 9–23: a digits-only regex rejects valid GI IBANs. Realistic mode, the default, uses digits only there; with Realistic off, the generator puts letters there about half the time.
  • Ready-made invalid values for negative tests: GI75NWBK000000007099454 (last character changed, MOD-97 fails) and GI75NWBK00000000709945 (one character missing).
  • Bank directory checks: by default the generator uses real bank codes such as TNOV (Trusted Novus Bank), and random ones with Realistic off, so you can test a known and an unknown bank.

About IBANs in Gibraltar

Gibraltar IBANs have 23 characters: a 4-letter bank code, which is the first 4 letters of the bank's BIC, then a 15-character account number that can contain letters. Gibraltar has no national standard for account numbers, so each bank uses its own, padded with leading zeros. Banks started issuing IBANs on 1 July 2003, and Gibraltar is on the EPC list of SEPA countries and territories.

Questions about IBANs in Gibraltar

How long is an IBAN in Gibraltar?

23 characters: the country code GI, two check digits and a national part (BBAN) of 19 characters.

What does an IBAN from Gibraltar look like?

For example GI75 NWBK 0000 0000 7099 453. That is the print format, in groups of four. Forms and files usually take it without spaces: GI75NWBK000000007099453.

Can Gibraltar IBANs contain letters?

Yes. GI IBANs always have uppercase letters at positions 5–8: NWBK in the registry example. Letters or digits are allowed at positions 9–23, although the registry example has only digits there.

Where is the bank code in Gibraltar IBANs?

The bank code, at positions 5–8: NWBK in the registry example. By default (realistic mode) the generator uses real bank codes, such as TNOV for Trusted Novus Bank.

Will a test IBAN for Gibraltar pass validation?

It passes the checks most forms run: country code, length, character format and MOD-97 check digits. In realistic mode, the default, the bank code is real too, so a bank directory check accepts it. An account lookup or a payee name check will not confirm it, because the account number is random.

Can I use a generated Gibraltar IBAN to sign up for a service or receive money?

No. It is test data that no bank issued to you. Money sent to it is rejected or, if the number happens to belong to someone, reaches a stranger, and using it for a sign-up, a free trial or a direct debit is misuse. Your own IBAN is in your banking app and on your statements.
