In the pattern, n stands for a digit, a for an uppercase letter and c for a letter or digit. The number before each letter is how many characters that block has.

National check digits

Besides the two IBAN check digits, PL IBANs carry national check digits inside the BBAN, at position 12. They come from the domestic account number and follow a national rule.

The 8-digit sort code (numer rozliczeniowy) ends with a check digit over its first 7 digits: weights 3, 9, 7, 1, 3, 9, 7, then 10 minus the remainder modulo 10.

What to test with PL IBANs

Accept exactly 28 characters for PL, after removing spaces, and reject 27 or 29.
Digits only after the check digits: a validator for PL should reject any letter there.
For a negative test of the national check, change the character at position 12 and recalculate the IBAN check digits (the validator suggests them). The IBAN then passes MOD-97 but fails the national check.
Same structure as Morocco (MA). The country code is part of the MOD-97 calculation, so a valid PL IBAN with another country code in front must fail.
Ready-made invalid values for negative tests: PL61109010140000071219812875 (last character changed, MOD-97 fails) and PL6110901014000007121981287 (one character missing).
Bank directory checks: by default the generator uses real bank codes such as 12401037 (Bank Pekao), and random ones with Realistic off, so you can test a known and an unknown bank.

Polish IBANs are 28 characters long and numeric. The first 8 digits of the BBAN identify the bank and branch, including a check digit, and the last 16 digits are the account number. The 26-digit domestic number used in Poland (NRB) is the IBAN without the PL prefix.

How long is an IBAN in Poland?

What does an IBAN from Poland look like?

For example PL61 1090 1014 0000 0712 1981 2874. That is the print format, in groups of four. Forms and files usually take it without spaces: PL61109010140000071219812874.

Can Polish IBANs contain letters?

No. After the check digits, PL IBANs contain only digits: the BBAN pattern is 24n.

Where is the bank code in Polish IBANs?

The bank code, at positions 5–12: 10901014 in the registry example. By default (realistic mode) the generator uses real bank codes, such as 10201013 for PKO Bank Polski.

Will a test IBAN for Poland pass validation?

It passes the checks most forms run: country code, length, character format and MOD-97 check digits. The national check digits inside the BBAN are computed with the official algorithm, so a validator that also checks them accepts this IBAN. In realistic mode, the default, the bank code is real too, so a bank directory check accepts it. An account lookup or a payee name check will not confirm it, because the account number is random.

Can I use a generated Polish IBAN to sign up for a service or receive money?

No. It is test data that no bank issued to you. Money sent to it is rejected or, if the number happens to belong to someone, reaches a stranger, and using it for a sign-up, a free trial or a direct debit is misuse. Your own IBAN is in your banking app and on your statements.
