What Is an IBAN?

An International Bank Account Number (IBAN) is a standardized format for identifying bank accounts across national borders. Defined by ISO 13616, it consists of a two-letter country code, two check digits, and a country-specific Basic Bank Account Number (BBAN). IBANs were introduced to simplify cross-border payments within Europe and have since been adopted by over 80 countries worldwide.

Frequently Asked Questions – IBAN Generator

What is a random IBAN generator?
A random IBAN generator creates International Bank Account Numbers that are structurally valid and pass the MOD-97 checksum verification defined by ISO 13616. These IBANs are intended for software testing, form validation, and educational use, they do not belong to any real bank account.
Are the generated IBANs real?
No. The IBANs produced by this tool are randomly generated. While they follow the correct format and pass checksum validation, they are not connected to any actual bank account. They should never be used for real financial transactions.
Can I use these IBANs for testing?
Yes. Randomly generated IBANs are widely used in software development for testing payment forms, API integrations, data validation, and database schemas. They provide a realistic format without exposing real financial data.
How does MOD-97 validation work?
The MOD-97 algorithm is specified in ISO 7064. To validate an IBAN: move the first four characters to the end, replace each letter with its numeric value (A=10, B=11, … Z=35), and compute the remainder when divided by 97. A valid IBAN always yields a remainder of 1.
Which countries are supported?
This tool supports IBAN generation for 45 countries across Europe, the Middle East, North Africa, and Asia, including all Eurozone members, the UK, Switzerland, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, UAE, and more. Each country follows its own BBAN structure as defined in the SWIFT IBAN Registry.
