Irish IBAN generator

IBANs in Ireland have 22 characters and start with IE. The one below is random, follows the national structure and passes the MOD-97 check, so form validation accepts it. No bank issued it.

Format

IE74BOFI06343714520969

  1. Country IE
  2. Check digits 74
  3. Bank code BOFI
  4. Branch code 063437
  5. Account number 14520969
Generate a list Up to 100 IBANs, as CSV, JSON, SQL or plain text

In CSV, JSON and SQL, every IBAN segment (bank, branch, account, check digits) gets its own column.

MOD-97 valid

Realistic mode: real bank code, random account number. No bank issued this IBAN, but it could match a real account by chance. Never use it for payments.

Check an IBAN

Paste an IBAN from any country to check its length, format and check digits.

Without JavaScript, this form opens the full IBAN validator.

Irish IBAN format

Length, pattern and the position of each segment in IE IBANs, with a sample IBAN.

IBAN length 22
BBAN length 18
BBAN pattern 4a6n8n
Structure IEkk aaaa bbbbbb cccccccc
Example, electronic IE29AIBK93115212345678
Example, print IE29 AIBK 9311 5212 3456 78
Letters in the BBAN Positions 5–8: always letters
National check digits None

Source SWIFT IBAN Registry, Release 102 (June 2026)

Position by position

Segment Positions Length Example
Country 1–2 2 IE
Check digits 3–4 2 29
Bank code 5–8 4 AIBK
Branch code 9–14 6 931152
Account number 15–22 8 12345678

In the pattern, n stands for a digit, a for an uppercase letter and c for a letter or digit. The number before each letter is how many characters that block has.

Real bank codes in realistic mode

In realistic mode, the default, the generator takes the bank code from this list and keeps the account number random, so no bank issued these IBANs. With Realistic off, the bank code is random too.

Bank Bank code
AIB AIBK
Bank of Ireland BOFI
PTSB IPBS

The branch code stays random.

What to test with IE IBANs

  • Accept exactly 22 characters for IE, after removing spaces, and reject 21 or 23.
  • Letters are required at positions 5–8. Test lowercase input too, and convert it to uppercase before you validate.
  • Same structure as United Kingdom (GB). The country code is part of the MOD-97 calculation, so a valid IE IBAN with another country code in front must fail.
  • Ready-made invalid values for negative tests: IE29AIBK93115212345679 (last character changed, MOD-97 fails) and IE29AIBK9311521234567 (one character missing).
  • Bank directory checks: by default the generator uses real bank codes such as BOFI (Bank of Ireland), and random ones with Realistic off, so you can test a known and an unknown bank.

About IBANs in Ireland

Irish IBANs are 22 characters long and look much like British ones: a 4-letter bank code taken from the bank's BIC, a 6-digit sort code and an 8-digit account number. Ireland uses the euro, so the IBAN alone is enough for payments across SEPA.

Questions about IBANs in Ireland

How long is an IBAN in Ireland?

22 characters: the country code IE, two check digits and a national part (BBAN) of 18 characters.

What does an IBAN from Ireland look like?

For example IE29 AIBK 9311 5212 3456 78. That is the print format, in groups of four. Forms and files usually take it without spaces: IE29AIBK93115212345678.

Can Irish IBANs contain letters?

Yes. IE IBANs always have uppercase letters at positions 5–8: AIBK in the registry example.

Where is the bank code in Irish IBANs?

The bank code, at positions 5–8: AIBK in the registry example. The branch code is at positions 9–14 (931152). By default (realistic mode) the generator uses real bank codes, such as AIBK for AIB.

Will a test IBAN for Ireland pass validation?

It passes the checks most forms run: country code, length, character format and MOD-97 check digits. In realistic mode, the default, the bank code is real too, so a bank directory check accepts it. An account lookup or a payee name check will not confirm it, because the account number is random.

Can I use a generated Irish IBAN to sign up for a service or receive money?

No. It is test data that no bank issued to you. Money sent to it is rejected or, if the number happens to belong to someone, reaches a stranger, and using it for a sign-up, a free trial or a direct debit is misuse. Your own IBAN is in your banking app and on your statements.
